Looking at the Change column it is not Delphi going up, but rather the others going down (Assembly, MATLAB, Swift, R, Ruby, Perl - while Go has been below Delphi even before). Delphi has a Change value of 0.00% while JavaScript has a positive value of 0.59%. It is just a matter of interpretation. This also renders the conclusion about the causes (CE, CodeRage, Academy) at least questionable.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong: No one would be happier to see Delphi rise in popularity than me, but I don't like misinterpretation of statistics. (Given that the actual value of the TIOBE index is more than questionable in the first place.)
BTW, if it weren't that SQL had been re-entered the index again, Delphi would be placed on rank 10. Does that allow any conclusion about the popularity of Delphi compared to SQL?
TIOBE is questionable we all know that - but it has some very high level general value. Even if others are moving down, holding fast while so many others move down is still an achievement. You can click for details, Delphi was nearly 2x it in Feb 2018. One has to take it with a heavy dose of salt, but its still has some value.
