XE8 Findings Found some minor tweaks in XE8. Will add to this post as I find more. Has anyone tried using LibreSSL ( http://www.libressl.org/ ), instead of OpenSSL, with Indy? While the DLLs names are different, is it just a matter of modifying the Indy components with the new names (as LibreSSL is a fork of OpenSSL)? http://www.libressl.org

Bookmarks supports XE8 . Please note that animations can be non-smooth or stutter when Castalia is installed. Happy about DBField optimization in XE8 ... This leads to a 25% performance increase when using TClientDataset in one of my applications. NICE!!!

XE8 first impressions Installed RadStudio XE8 (Pro) last night and these are my first impressions: * Registration - Confusing. Having a FireDAC subscription, I learn in XE7 that I have to run the install twice, once with the XE8 serial number and then again with the FireDAC serial number. When it came to start XE8, it complained that I wasn't license for Delphi/C++ and it wasn't until I registered both licenses (via the License Manager) that XE8 finally started nicely. * Colour scheme - eeek. Tried following the blogs to change this but the blue remains :-(  * Welcome screen - Where are my "favourite project" list? Why is the list of recent project only have the last 5 (five), yet the re-open menu has the default 10 (ten) - should they be sync'ed? How to change the Welcome screen to have more? * Castalia - What can I say but WOW! After being spoilt with Castalia Suite 5-XE7, when comes with XE8 is, well... it might better off not to have it. So cut down and miss...

Hello! I tried to add a new XE8 to the cart (I don't actually have the money now but I was trying to figure out what budget I'll need for that). So I was looking at the list of things and noticed a couple of things I didn't really quite like: the  Update subscription and the Extended Download. Let's start from the subscription: besides what we already discussed, there is a piece of wording in the "information" that I do not quite like. It says: "All major upgrades (i.e. XE7 to next major release)". Now, this is a bit confusing because it's either all major upgrades or just one. Cannot be both. So, in the face of it there are good chances that they simply wrote it wrong. But they may not have and, indeed, only mean one major upgrade. Does anybody know for sure? The second thing is possibly even more troubling. This "Extended Download" says (rephrased for brevity): "Our new software frees you from the need of making a backup copy...

My apologies if this has already been covered--I cannot seem to find an answer by searching existing forums? Concerning iOS development with Delphi XE5 on Windows 7: What version of Xcode / iOS SDK has an iOS Simulator that works with Delphi XE5 update 2? I found some online discussion how an update to Xcode 5.0.2 manages to break XE5 with an error that I was already seing with my attempt to use Xcode 6.2.  I rolled back to Xcode 5.0.2 surmising that if an update was breaking it, then it must have worked at 5.0.2. My specific error went away, and now the IOS Simulator 7.0.3 will run, but I never get any render--nothing but black screen.  After awhile, Delphi XE5 times out. My development PC has plenty of juice and is running Windows 7 64-bit.  I have a current model Mac Mini, running Yosemite, with plenty of RAM. Embarcadero throws their hands up because XE5 is as good as biblical history now.  Thanks for any insights you can offer.

Hello all, I am a professional developer turned casual who has been using Delphi since 1.0 was given to me by Programmer's Paradise as a pack-in with a purchase of Microsoft Visual Studio. I loved it, and bought Delphi 3, 5 and 7 Professional and wrote many small time and materials projects with it.  That was more than a decade ago, so I was delighted to discover that Embarcadero had taken up the torch and has kept the VCL alive. I purchased Delphi XE5 in January 2014, and have happily been upgrading old tools and writing new ones.  At the same time I bought the Mobility Pack and have been working on writing Android and iOS apps as well.

Anyone knows how to disable castalia in XE8? A lot of errors, IDE becomes almost unusable.

Is there any way to change the default GetIt URL for the Rest API ( http://getit.embarcadero.com/ ) ? Sometimes we may have some private or unknown components (unlisted in the official GetIt server) which we would like to install it using GetIt on our machines from a local repository, so it would be nice to change the default URL to take advantage of GetIt. I was digging a little bit the response (JSON) text, and it was easy to replicate with my own custom Rest API server (using PhalconPHP), I added the 127.0.0.1 getit.embarcadero.com to hosts file.  Now, I am able to install some components that are not listed in the GetIt client. It works well, and I'm sure it will work on a network using a DNS proxy server setup correctly to use one machine as the components repository, as well as the custom rest api server. However, if we are going to use another non-official repository online the hosts file trick won't work, so it would be nice if we could change the default GetIt URL....

The best new feature in XE8 can be seen by pressing F1. Oh, how did I miss a fast help system ...

TrendMicro is reporting LicenseManager.exe in  #XE8  Trial as a Malware. I'm pretty sure it's false positive, but i wonder what's inside LicenseManager.exe that makes TrendMicro think it's a malware. This happens during installation. I haven't finished installing yet coz the XE8 installer says installation failed, then asked me to download the file again from the web.

Hi, I have a project which is compiling fine onto ios and Android in XE7 but gives the following error when compiling in XE8 beta for android. [DCC Error] E2597 C:\Users\Public\Documents\Embarcadero\Studio\15.0\PlatformSDKs\android-ndk-r9c\toolchains\arm-linux-androideabi-4.6\prebuilt\windows\bin\arm-linux-androideabi-ld.exe: fatal error: .\\Android\\Debug\\libTestProject.so: mmap: failed to allocate 221541444 bytes for output file: Not enough space. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

Wow, my laptop only has 20GB free on the C: drive and 257GB on the D: drive.  I want to install XE8 on the D: drive, but it says I don't have enough hard drive space.  I guess it needs the space on the C: drive?  But I have 20gb free?
